A Cheater Like Me is a 20-minute short film that follows a high-stakes heist and an unexpected friendship. The story centers on Savannah, a teenager struggling to fit into her elite prep school, where she is constantly overlooked by teachers while Ben, the school's golden boy, receives all the praise. Frustrated and feeling out of place, the two decide to break into their school one night, leading to an unlikely bond that teaches them both the value of opening up.
This film explores themes of friendship, humor, and the deeper socioeconomic struggles that shape Savannah’s experiences. I directed a crew of 35 individuals from 11 countries over a six-day shoot, working across seven locations. Through storytelling, we aimed to highlight the impact of gender inequality and socioeconomic status on teenagers. We shot on the Blackmagic URSA Mini, using dollies, gimbals, and both indoor and outdoor lighting setups.
As a forever-teenage girl at heart, this film will always mean so much to me and remind me how lucky I am to have shared my film passion with friends.
