Midnight Art Class is the first short film I ever directed. While attending Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, I graduated with a dual high school degree in Film and Digital Media. In my junior year, I pitched the idea for this short, which captures a brief encounter between a rebellious teenager sneaking into an art gallery and an art-loving janitor who teaches them to appreciate all forms of art.

This film is short, funny, and reflective. I wrote and directed it with the goal of exploring themes of nostalgia, art theory, and—most importantly—the connection between two very different people. I worked with a crew of 15 and directed two actors over a two-day shoot. I edited the film using Avid Media Composer and utilized gimbals and dollies for tracking shots, shooting on the Blackmagic URSA Mini camera.

Midnight Art Class was screened on three different continents, and every time I think about it, it still makes me smile.
