Working on this environmental documentary was a pivotal experience that solidified my passion for documentary filmmaking and deepened my connection to my community. As part of a team of four, I helped produce, shoot, and edit an investigative piece on the detrimental impacts of algal blooms in Cayuga Lake and the potential of aquaponics as a sustainable solution.
This project allowed us to engage deeply with local residents and specialists, conducting over five interviews to understand the environmental challenges affecting our shared spaces. Being able to work within my own community made this experience especially meaningful, and it reinforced my desire to continue learning about the environmental issues that shape the places I live in. It was my first environmental documentary, and through it, I gained valuable hands-on experience using Kino Flo and LED lighting, Canon C100 cameras, GoPros, and drones for dynamic aerial shots.
Additionally, I learned the intricacies of archival footage policies and licensing while editing in Adobe Premiere. This project was an incredible learning opportunity, strengthening my technical skills and reinforcing my commitment to storytelling that drives awareness and change.
